CAMERON CROWE ON JOSEPH ARTHUR, USA TODAY
December 21st, 2011
you been to any shows this year that affected you?
Crowe: Yes. I'd say Joseph Arthur at the
Troubadour. He was great. I think the guy would be
successful in any era, because he puts his heart
out there. And even though it was a small club --
packed, but small -- maybe in another era he would
be playing a much bigger place. But it didn't matter
to him. He was giving it everything, and painting
too, onstage. This
guy is not wasting one element of the musical experience.
He's giving his fans everything and just putting
it out there with no second-guessing. That was probably
the best show I've seen this year -- that and PJ
lives near me, and he always says he's going to take
me to get a tattoo. He's covered in tattoos.
would trust in Joe. Would he create the tattoo? Would it be
don't know! (Laughs)

ARTHUR PERFORMANCE AND INTERVIEW ON WNYC Joseph Arthur stopped by the WNYC Studios
on June 7th for an interview and live performance. Arthur
set out to make a minimal, acoustic album for his first full-length
solo release since 2006. But that’s not quite how “The
Graduation Ceremony” turned out. Arthur explains how the album
snowballed into something epic, and performs his new songs in
their original, acoustic incarnation. Check it out

ARTHUR ART EXHIBITION AT THE GERSHWIN HOTEL, NYC JUNE 2nd - 30th,
ROLLING STONE FRANCE GIVES 'THE GRADUATION CEREMONY' 4 OUT OF 5 STARS! "Like
his musical brothers Ben Harper and Dhani Harrison, Joseph Arthur
seems to have put an end to the Fistful of Mercy chapter. Or maybe
not so succinctly. At least that's how we felt when listening to
most songs on The Graduation Ceremony, whose acoustic-driven
tone underlines the emotional impact of Vanity Fair's
favorite songwriter. To start, "Out on a Limb" and especially "Horses", with its elegant chord arrangement - elements which jumped out in the trio's debut album - confirm the predominant role of Arthur in Fistful of Mercy, both vocally and with respect to composition. Only slightly drifting from the "atmospheric folk" genre (in the song "Over the Sun"), our man delivers consistent magic, (we'd cite "Face in the Crowd" as one of our favorites) delicately brought to life by Joseph himself and co-producer Joh Alaiga. It goes without saying that this album will be on repeat for the next six months to come." -A.G.
